HAIR ANALYSIS
Hair
Analysis is mainly used in cases where
chemical or metal poisoning may be involved. It is
particularly useful for people with chronic exposure to pollutants, or
who work with chemicals or metals, e.g. printing industry, painting,
agricultural sprays, boat-building, and some carpentry jobs where
timber is treated.
Hair
Analysis is primarily used to determine:
- Whichtoxins are present in the body, e.g.
mercury, arsenic, lead, aluminium, cadmium.
- Levels
of nutrients in the body, e.g. calcium, magnesium,
copper, zinc, manganese.
Hair
concentrates minerals and toxic metals, which is why it is a useful
indicator of levels of these in the body. It is also regarded
as the best evaluation of long-term over-exposure or
deficiencies. Hair analysis can also reflect changes before
abnormalities appear.
Procedure:
A
sample of your hair is taken from the nape of your neck and is sent to
a very reputable laboratory in the U.S.A, which has been testing hair
for over 25 years (and is therefore more advanced than companies in
Australia and NZ who have only started testing hair relatively
recently). The laboratory in the U.S.A test the hair for
toxins and nutrient levels, and send us a 2-4 page report.
The results are presented in a graph form and it enables us to
ascertain the levels of the toxins and nutrients tested. We
also receive a written report relating to your specific test
results.
Treatment:
If
a toxin is shown to be of a high level, we then prescribe a programme
of natural products to eliminate the toxins.
Preparation for Hair Analysis:
- The hair must not already
contain perms or colours.
- The hair is to be shampooed with a very mild
shampoo – baby shampoo is recommended - for five
washes. No conditioners, gel, hair spray, mousse or
any other such hair product are to be used during this time.
- If your hair is currently permed or coloured,
other methods of testing may be recommended.
